WHY IS MY AIRCON UNIT DRIPPING WATER OUTSIDE?

We often get asked the question: “Why is my airconditioning unit leaking water outside?” The answer is quite simple. When your aircon removes humidity from the room (i.e. cooling down the temperature in the room) it does so by adding heat to remove heat, and condensation takes place in the evaporator (indoor unit). This is why there will be more condensate (dripping of water) during summer and very hot days (depending on humidity), than in winter and on cooler days.

It can also be used as a basic health-check indicator for your aircon. However, if your aircon suddenly turns into a new water feature, this should immediately be checked out by your airconditioning professional, as this could mean that there is a blockage somewhere! Anything from an insect’s nest to sludge in the drain.
